From a reader, Dorothy (May 2014): “My standard opening line to waitstaff is, “I have to warn you, I will probably be your biggest pain in the neck customer today.” It’s been a good icebreaker, and pretty much every time I say those words the response is “No problem, we can handle it!” I’ve eaten at Luminaria several times, both breakfast & dinner, and am always really impressed with both the quality of food and the desire of the staff to feed me food that is safe. They do not have gluten free items marked on their menu, but they have told me each time I’ve eaten there that I should just order whatever I want from the menu (with probably a couple of obvious exceptions) and the chef will prepare it gluten free on separate equipment. Something may need to be substituted, but when that’s the case they will always confirm with me before preparing it. Luminaria is my definition of a high-class kitchen, just wish I could afford to go there more often!”
