Café Green classifies itself as a contemporary American
Bistro that serves food made from the freshest of
ingredients. Based on my visit, this is a perfect description
of the restaurant. Café Green is in the downtown area
tucked back on the Northwest corner of 5th and Lead with
free parking right next to the building. The garden-like
atmosphere of the restaurant is a great escape from a busy
day and is conducive to lingering over your meal while
enjoying the company of friends.
Café Green's menu is extensive and there are several
options for those of us eating gluten free. All of the
sandwiches can be made using gluten-free bread and there
are a number of salads that can be ordered exactly as
described on the menu. The salad pictured here is the
Tarragon Crab Salad. This meal-sized salad was topped a
large portion of light, flaky and very fresh blue crab. The
crab was on a bed of butter lettuce that had been tossed
with peas, thinly sliced radishes and a pleasingly subtle
tarragon salad dressing. On the side, was a red piquant
pepper stuffed with goat cheese and spices. The
combination of crisp, cold vegetables, seafood, goat cheese
and the homemade salad dressing was a refreshing treat on
hot summer day.
I have already planned at least two future visits to Café
Green. One will be for their Sunday Brunch - they offer a
gluten-free version of Eggs Benedict - and the other will be
to order the Cuban sandwich. After I try these, I'll still be
looking for excuses to go to Café Green whenever I'm in the
area.
Café Green is open for breakfast and lunch on weekdays
from7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday brunch is served from 9 a.m. to
1 p.m.
