India Kitchen is one of many restaurants I learned about
because a user of this site was kind enough to send me
an e-mail recommending their Chicken Vindaloo as a
fantastic gluten-free meal. India Kitchen had been my
favorite place to go for Indian food prior to living gluten
free. Unfortunately, I incorrectly assumed that I could no
longer eat there.
When I asked our server about gluten-free options, she
informed me that everything on the menu was gluten free
or could be made gluten free with the exception of the
appetizers, the breads and one dessert. I was stunned.
The menu is extensive, and it would have taken me a long
time to order if I hadn't had my mind set on Chicken
Vindaloo. Our server also detailed the procedures they
follow to prevent cross contamination before I even
asked.
The Chicken Vindaloo arrived in a large bowl and it was
wonderfully hot and spicy. Then a separate plate arrived
with rice, a cracker bread made from lentils and a small
container with chutney and yogurt sauces. The meal was
followed by a rich, perfectly spiced and not too sweet rice
pudding. It was a treat to reacquaint myself with the
wonderful tastes and textures of great Indian food. I was
fascinated by the cracker bread which I don't ever
remember eating. It was light and crispy and great with
the chutney and yogurt sauces.
India Kitchen recently celebrated their 25th anniversary
and they pride themselves on their large selection of
vegetarian meals. It's no surprise that they've been
successful for such a long time. Dining at India Kitchen is
a wonderful experience!
