The sign on Paisano's advertised gluten-free Italian food
long before I knew what gluten free meant. Almost
everything on Paisano's menu is available in gluten-free
form. This includes pizza, pasta, and sandwiches. The
salads and many of the appetizers are always gluten free
and, therefore, require no alteration. Additionally, some of
the daily specials, which include exquisite desserts, have
no gluten.
I don't think anyone could discern that the difference
between the gluten-free pasta and the pasta everyone
else is eating. I usually order a gluten-free pizza with my
meal knowing that I will be bringing most of it home. It's a
treat to be able to have pizza that I don't have to make it
from scratch.
I love the cozy feel of the restaurant and being seated in
the patio on a warm summer night adds to the
atmosphere. But, the real luxury for me is ordering a pizza
to go - a simple pleasure that I had really missed from my
gluten-filled days.
Update: I have heard from several people that Paisano's
servers now offer to bring gluten-free bread to your table
along with bread they bring for the other diners. Be aware
that there is an extra charge for the gluten-free bread just
as there is for several of the other gluten-free items on
the menu.
