I heard about Pizza 9 from members of the Albuquerque Gluten
Intolerance Support Group. Everyone who had been there gave
their gluten-free pizza rave reviews. However, I was skeptical.
I've been disappointed by the taste and texture of gluten-free
pizzas.
I am happy to report that Pizza 9 makes outstanding
gluten-free pizza. The thin and crispy crust has just the right
texture. The pizza sauce has a nice bite, and there are a
variety of toppings to choose from. Even my very picky family
thinks this pizza tastes great!
I called the Pizza 9 location on Eubank just South of Indian
School prior to my visit. I asked several questions about the
process used to prevent cross contamination of a gluten-free
pizza. All my questions were answered in detail and I'm
confident that every possible precaution is taken to make sure
the pizza is gluten free when it arrives at your table.
Pizza 9 purchases Gluten Free Kneads pizza crust. The crust
contains teff and amaranth flours and comes in a 12" size.
Production and packaging of the pizza crusts take place in a
gluten-free facility. When the pizza is prepared at Pizza 9, only
ingredients that have been stored separately from other
ingredients are used, and the cooks wash their hands prior to
preparation to avoid cross contamination.
Pizza 9 has four locations in Albuquerque and they deliver.
Friday nights with pizza are once again part of our family
tradition!
Update: As of Jan., 2011 and perhaps previous to that, Pizza 9
started carrying the most delicious gluten-free brownies and
blondies from the same company that provides the gluten-free
pizza crust. They are frozen, shrink wrapped and come in very
generous single-serving portions. I've started a dangerous habit
of buying one of these every time I go to Pizza 9 just to have a
great dessert on hand!
