The St. James Tea Room was voted one of the five best
Tea Rooms in the country by CNN.com and before I quit
eating foods with gluten, this was one of my favorite
places to go in Albuquerque. Afternoon tea is served
here, and it is a relaxing and elegant experience that
takes place over two luxurious hours.
Unfortunately, most of the delicious and artfully made
food is wheat based. So, I removed the St. James from
my life. Then one of my friends made some inquiries and
discovered that the St. James offers a gluten-free menu.
All the foods served for the gluten-free Tea are prepared
separately on Mondays, when St. James is closed and
nothing else is taking place in the kitchen. The
gluten-free menu is not just an adaptation of the
standard menu but one that has been created to taste
every bit as good as the original.
You need to make a reservation for a sitting at the St.
James, and you must indicate that you would like a
gluten-free menu when you make your reservation. The
gluten-free menu is a few dollars more expensive than
the standard menu.
Note: If you want to relish the incredible gluten-free
scones in the comfort of your own home, they can be
ordered to go and uncooked for $1 each. What a treat to
once again enjoy a freshly baked scone at home!
