May 2014, from reader Marsha: “It always has been one of my favorite dining experiences. Nice atmosphere, good prices and great food. You can tell it’s a good place to eat because it is packed at meal times. I tend to stop there after hiking in northern New Mexico. I especially like the Buffalo Burger.
The last time I was there (and the first time since discovering I was was gluten intolerant), I was prepared to order a Buffalo Burger sans bun. The waitress, however, told me they not only had gluten-free bread on the menu, they had gluten-free buns for their burgers and sandwiches. The bread was absolutely delicious, not stale or tasteless like a lot of gluten-free bread.
When it came time for dessert, I was ready to pass, as I usually do knowing the selection doesn’t consider those who who gluten intolerant. The waitress, however, told me they had gluten-free strawberry cupcakes. I ordered one. It was simply amazing, with real chunks of strawberry in it. I’m definitely going back when I go back to hike Wheeler Peak later this year.”
