Note: Sunflower was bought out and is now called Sprouts Farmers Market.

My favorite part of Sunflower Market is the produce section right in the middle of the store. The selection is fantastic, and there are usually a few real bargains among the in-season fruits and vegetables. If I would eat more from this section of the store, I’d not only save money but I’d probably lose a few pounds, too!

Unfortunately, I venture all too often into the bakery, snack and freezer sections. The variety of gluten-free foods stocked at Sunflower Market is extensive. The bakery area has several Ener G brand breads next to their other breads. The adjacent freezer section contains breads and other baked goods from Food for LifeFrench MeadowGlutinoKinnikinnick, and Udi’s. All the major brands of gluten-free crackers, cookies and chips appear on the store shelves next to their gluten-filled counterparts. Included on the shelves with protein bars is a large selection of gluten-free bars from KindThink Thin, Lara and Bora Bora, TinkyadaDeBoles and Ancient Harvest are the brands of gluten-free pasta carried by the store. Unfortunately, the selection of gluten-free cereals is small.

GroceryStoreClipArt2It had been a while since I looked through the frozen food section at a grocery store and I was pleasantly surprised to see several brands of frozen pizza and meals from GlutinoAmy’s and Conte’s. I had forgotten what having an array of choices is like. It will be fun for me to give all of these a try.

If you’ve been adhering to a gluten-free diet for any length of time, you are very aware that specialty gluten-free foods are expensive. However, the weekly specials for Sunflower Markets often encompass packaged gluten-free items.
