Mykonos is a locally-owned Greek restaurant and the owner’s Mother still comes in to cook several of the signature dishes most every day. The restaurant is located in the North East Heights and has served excellent food since it opened several years ago.

There is only one item on the standard menu that I know to be gluten free. It is a delicious salad that includes feta cheese, red onion and tomatoes. While this salad is a great choice for a light lunch, I wouldn’t want it to be my only choice.

Grilled Salmon with Greek Potatoes and Green Beans

Grilled Salmon with Greek Potatoes and Green Beans

Fortunately, Mykonos offers daily specials and many of them are either gluten free or can be made gluten free. The Grilled Salmon is pictured here. It was perfectly cooked and seasoned with a variety of fresh herbs. The waiter suggested Greek potatoes and green beans to accompany my salmon. The Greek potatoes are cooked in a wonderful combination of olive oil, lemon and herbs. The Greek green beans are baked in a delicious tomato sauce. The generous portions were more than I should have eaten but that didn’t stop me from enjoying each and every bite on my plate.

As always, it’s a good idea to call in advance of your visit to inquire about the availability of gluten-free entrees. You may need to speak with the chef if the hostess is unfamiliar with your request.

Update: Salads are always appealing to me in the summer and Mykanos has two salads that I’ve tried recently that I would strongly recommend. The Corfu Salad is a mixture of artichokes and fresh shrimp served with a lemon and olive oil dressing. If you like a flavorful Spinich salad, the Spanaki Salad should be your choice. Either salad makes a great meal.
