June 2010: This review was written by GF Lady, the previous owner of GlutenFreeAlbuquerque.com and is used here with her permission.

Red Robin is the place to go for great hamburgers in fun, child-friendly surroundings. It’s also a very welcoming place for those following a gluten-free diet. On request, your server will provide a detailed listing of meals and side dishes that can be made gluten free along with instructions on how each item should be ordered.

The burgers could always be ordered “protein style”, which means lettuce wrapped. Recently (in 2011) Red Robin started offering gluten-free hamburger buns so you now have a choice! The gluten-free buns are available on request and do not appear on the menu. Burgers are grilled in their own area and do not come in contact with regular hamburger buns. Additionally, I request an unopened ketchup bottle to avoid any possibility of cross contamination.

I usually order a side salad to accompany my burger. The salads are topped with fried tortilla strips that are not gluten free. You must request that they be omitted. Several of their salad dressings are gluten free. French fries are cooked in a dedicated fryer. However, they need to be ordered without the seasoning as this contains gluten.

Red Robin is a fun place to eat, and it’s wonderful to be able to eat with my children at their favorite restaurant. The attention I receive here rivals the service I’ve received in Albuquerque’s high-end restaurants. Great food that I can eat, fantastic service and a wonderful atmosphere: what more could you ask for?

Update: In June 2012, Red Robin will being serving gf Hard Cider from a dedicated tap!
