When we have visitors, we always go to Santa Fe and our restaurant of choice used to beĀ The Shed. That ended five years ago when I started eating gluten free and discovered there was nothing I could eat at there.

This past summer we entertained guests who really wanted to eat at The Shed so I went along with the idea that I would order a beverage and bring a snack to eat later. Imagine my surprise when our server told me that they could make a gluten-free dinner. I was served the best Fish Tacos on blue corn tortillas topped with pico de gallo along with a side of The Shed’s homemade Calabacitas. I was so completely unprepared to find something I could eat that I had neither camera nor cell phone with me to take a picture.

I was more prepared recently when I went to The Shed for lunch. The Shed’s lunch and dinner menu differ and for lunch the gluten-free offering is The Carne Adovada Plate. The Carne Adovada can be ordered right off the menu as it is made in a naturally gluten-free red chili. The meal is enormous and comes with a blue corn cheese enchilada, beans and posole in addition to the Carne Adovada which tops the meal. I do not have the words to adequately describe how tasty or how much fun it was to once again eat one of my favorite meals in my favorite Santa Fe restaurant.

Every person I spoke to at the restaurant appeared to be well versed in the requirements for a gluten-free meal and for preventing cross contamination.
